Davy Jones Locker

I foolishly placate myself
That some permanence exists
In hardened steel
Or red sandstone.
Master of my fate.
I let the hours slip away
Into decades.
Unchanged and unchanging.
Holding on to old songs
Old idols.
But ‘it all goes’
She told me.
I have found no
Bluebird wings
under which to hide.

Just scissors to string
And the kite lifts
Sky bound.
Towards the seas.
From Daydream Believer
by John Stewart
Sung by the Monkees
